Friendliness! by DamaInNero Friendliness! by DamaInNero
I met these two young soldiers on the bus to Tel Aviv in Israel. They were so merry and looked so happy with their life that I could not help but to ask them if I could take a photo of them, which they gladly agreed to.
To me they perfectly represent the Israeli youth: I've travelled to many places but I have rarely seen so many happy and hopeful young people as there. They all look so serene and sunny, even when they're carrying such a dangerous duty as being soldiers.

Мальчик с автоматом, девочка с винтовкой,
Это быт народа Солнечной страны.
Что мне пожелать Вам, Внуки Иеговы?
Счастья и Свободы, Мира и Любви!

A Boy with a gun, a Girl with a rifle,
This life of the people of the Solar Country.
What I wish you, Jehovah's Grandchildren?
Happiness and Freedom, Peace and Love!

These are poster-children for Israel, in several ways.
This image clearly illustrates so much that is wonderful about
the small state surrounded by so many hostile states,
and so many hundreds of millions of hateful neighbors - needlessly, of course.
I'm a Jewish Yank, and I and many others are aware that
for whatever reason, Israel is losing the PR war.
I suggest that you try to get this image in the hands of PR companies
throughout the world.

First off, I'm very, very sorry for the late reply: I am not very familiar with English, so I waited for my son to come back home so he could translate this reply, because I wanted especially to write you back.
I published this photo in a Russian-language social network in a pro-Israeli group and an Israeli friend of mine published it on Facebook, but I'm afraid that's not nearly enough. I would love to contribute to refute such a hostile opinion many people have not only on a country they do not know, but especially on a century worth of history they don't care looking into. The only thing I can do is writing on the forums of the Italian press in order to give a different perspective on some negative coverage which is definitely biased. I know that's not much, either, but I do hope at least someone of the people who read my comments will stop to think for a while.

Greetings from Italy!

Lovely couple and nice shot! They look so cute! We always have, in general, this wrong perception about soldiers where we think they're cold and unscrupulous but your picture shows very well they're just persons and the uniform is just a dress that doesn't define who they are.

I've seen many young people who contribute to thesafety of their country and they all gave me a sense of protection, rather than intimidation. I felt a mixture of thankfulnes and maternal instinct to them.
